AIIMS Jammu, University

Life as an MBBS student at AIIMS is an intense yet rewarding journey that blends elite academic rigor with a rare degree of personal independence. Days often shift rapidly from demanding theory lectures and long clinical postings in crowded wards to a relaxed hostel environment with minimal restrictions. Students gain early hands-on exposure to a wide spectrum of medical conditions, including rare and complex cases, which significantly strengthens clinical confidence from the beginning of the course. Beyond academics, campus life at AIIMS is vibrant and memorable. Late nights are commonly spent in the 24/7 central library or socialising in single-occupancy hostel rooms. The experience is further enriched by iconic traditions such as Pulse, inter-AIIMS events, and an enormous patient inflow that sharpens real-world medical skills, all offered at a nominal total fee of around 6,000.

Everything You Need to Know

AIIMS Jammu (in Vijaypur, Samba district) was conceptualized in 2015, the foundation stone was laid in 2019, and the permanent campus was inaugurated in February 2024 to improve advanced healthcare and medical education in Jammu & Kashmir and neighboring areas.

The institute currently admits about 62–125 MBBS seats (initial batches started smaller and are being expanded) through NEET?UG followed by MCC counselling for All India Quota.

AIIMS Jammu’s campus includes a multi?specialty teaching hospital with around 750 beds, services like 24×7 emergency care, ICUs, advanced diagnostics (CT, MRI), AYUSH block, and dozens of specialty & super?specialty departments.

The campus is modern and expansive (~227 acres) with smart lecture halls, labs, simulation centers, digital library, and separate hostels for undergraduate and postgraduate students, along with sports, auditorium, cafeteria, and residential quarters .

While MBBS is currently running, the institute is set to introduce postgraduate (MD/MS/MDS) and super?specialty (DM/MCh) programs soon as the academic and clinical infrastructure grows.

Being the first AIIMS in J&K region, it significantly reduces the need for patients to travel far for advanced treatment, strengthens tertiary care, and trains future doctors with diverse clinical exposure from the Jammu, Ladakh, and nearby Punjab/Himachal areas.
