About Russia

Russia (Russian Federation) is the world’s largest country, spanning Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. It is known for its vast size, rich natural resources, diverse landscapes, powerful military strength, deep cultural heritage, and strategic global importance. Russia plays a key role in international affairs as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Covering nearly one-tenth of the Earth’s land surface, Russia stretches across 11 time zones and is bordered by both the Arctic and Pacific Oceans. Its vast geography includes Siberian taiga forests, tundra regions, steppes, deserts, the Ural Mountains, the Caucasus Mountains (home to Europe’s highest peak, Mount Elbrus), Lake Baikal, and the Volga River.

Governed as a federal semi-presidential republic, Russia uses the Ruble as its official currency. Beyond Moscow, major cities include Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, and Nizhny Novgorod, which serve as important cultural, educational, and economic centres.

Russia is the largest country in the world by land area, covering approximately 17.1 million square kilometers. It has a population of around 146 million people and is a multinational state with over 180 ethnic groups. Ethnic Russians form more than 80% of the population. The official language is Russian, and Orthodox Christianity is the dominant religion. Moscow is the capital city and the main political and economic center.

In addition to Moscow, important cities such as Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and Nizhny Novgorod play a significant role in Russia’s economic, scientific, and cultural development. Russia is one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of natural gas and oil.

Climate: Russia mainly experiences a continental climate, with warm summers and cold winters in most populated regions. Northern areas have a subarctic climate with extremely cold winters, while the Black Sea coast, including Sochi, enjoys a humid subtropical climate with mild winters.

Transportation: Major cities in Russia have well-developed public transportation systems, including metro trains, buses, trams, trolleybuses, railways, domestic flights, and water transport such as ships and boats.
